Z103.5 Morning Show Chicken Wing Eating Competition

This radio program held a chicken wing eating contest... dang, why don't I ever get invited to these things?!? I don't think that I'd have the problems that these guys did. Here's the video:

Summer Heat: Hooters vs Wingstop

Okay, if you've been reading the blog for any time at all, you know that I'm a fan of both Hooters and Wingstop. I recently visited both restaurants on a Summer Heat Tour, looking for the hottest wings around. I went to the Hooters in Texarkana, TX, and ordered 20 Bentley wings... the flavor was great, but I barely broke a sweat. A few days later I drove over to the Wingstop in Longview, TX, where I dined on 20 Atomic wings. After ten, I was sweating like a Trojan soldier and my face was bright red. I was wondering whether or not I'd be able to finish the entire order, and although it took a while (along with several glasses of tea and a huge order of fries), I mangaged to get them all down. In the battle of Hooters vs Wingstop, at least at those two particular locations, Wingstop won the heat index hands down. Stay tuned for more head-to-head competitions!

Mad Props to Hooters

A few days ago, my wife and I were having a wing party here at the house. One of our friends is a Hooters aficionado, and suggested that we cater in from the nearest restaurant. Trouble is, the nearest Hooters is 45 minutes away, so it's logistically and physically a problem. We decided to make the wings at home, but as I was shopping the local supermarket, I saw a jar of Hooters Hot Wing Sauce! I figured that this would make my buddy happy, so I picked up a jar. We fried the wings, and then shook them in the sauce just like the guys do who cook the wings in the Hooters kitchen.

I've got to say, they were delicious! Hooters gets their props for producing a home version that is very close to their restaurant sauce. No orange lycra and tight tee-shirts, but wonderful home-cooked wings, nonetheless!

I shouldn't post this... I really shouldn't...

I get a lot of great feedback on this blog for its recipes, chicken wing news from chain restaurants, etc... and this post is so off-topic that there's no way that I should post it. Still, it concerns chicken wings, so I feel a certain obligation.

You know how you've heard stories about chopping off a lizard's tail and it grows back? Well, scientists have now accomplished that feat with a chicken wing. I don't know how this will affect Hooters or Buffalo Wild Wings, but I thought that I'd post the link to the story just the same...

Chili Wings - Ya just gotta love 'em!

I love wings, and I love chili, so this is the perfect crossover dish. Have fun with these Chili Wings:

20 chicken wings
2 Tbsp cumin
2 Tbsp garlic salt
2 Tbsp paprica
2 Tbsp oregano
1 tsp chili powder
2 tsp salt
1 tsp red pepper

Combine the spice ingredients well, then roll each wing in the mixture. Preheat oven to 350. Bake for 20 minutes, gently turn each wing, then bake until done. This should take approximately another 20 minutes.

Lemon Herb Wings

Here's a tasty little recipe for you to try - Lemon Herb Wings!

20 chicken wings
2 tsp rosemary
2 tsp minced garlic
1/2 tsp white pepper
1/2 tsp salt
1/2 cup lemon juice
1/2 cup Olive oil

Start by preheating your oven to 375 degrees. Put all of the ingredients into a baking pan, stirring the mixture well. The wings need to bake for at least thirty minutes, but start checking them after about twenty.
